This unprecedented consultation, conducted online and on social networks, was organized by makesense at the initiative of 24 CSR expert organizations. Its aim is to give a voice to companies affected by the CSRD, particularly mid-sized companies and SMEs, within the framework of the European Commissionâs consultation on this directive.
Nearly 300 French executives and senior managers (including CEOs, CFOs, CSR directors, and risk management directors) responsible for preparing their organizations for the CSRD responded to the consultation between 10 and 18 February 2025.
The respondents represent a diverse range of companies and stages of readiness: while some are very advanced (30% have already selected their sustainability auditor), others (17%) have not yet begun their preparatory work.
The results are clear: 80% of responding companies are satisfied with the CSRD and the current content of the directive.
Companies are asking for support and simplifications.
1. Support above all
Among the 18 potential evolutions of the CSRD proposed by various stakeholders, from MEDEF to Mouvement Impact France, the most supported suggestions are those providing concrete assistance to companies: 72% request sector-specifi c guidelines and standards, 52% support a single-window principle, and 45% ask for targeted public aids.
2. Quick and targeted relief
Also favored are the so-called Level 2 evolutions (such as a reduction in the number of signifi cant data points for 52% of respondents, easing audit rules for 48%, or reducing the number of narratives for 46%, and making certain ESRS optional at the start for 39%). These are measures that can be quickly implemented in the Omnibus law, requiring fewer parliamentary debates and less uncertainty for companies than Level 1 measures.
3. No to radical changes or elimination
A one-year delay for the directive (requested by only 11%) or two years (requested by 8%) is not seen as a major need. On the contrary, companies want to fi nalize their preparations and move forward.Very few companies request deep changes (Level 1) : 9% wish to eliminate the directive for companies with fewer than 750 employees, 2% ask for a change in the standards system for LSMEs, 2% request its elimination for all companies, and only 1% want to abandon double materiality.
4. Fairness at borders
28% request that the implementation schedule for non-European companies, currently set for 2029, be accelerated and modified to 2026 or 2027 to ensure equity with European companies.
Among the 294 respondents to the consultation : Accor, Aroma-Zone, Besson Chaussures, Bouygues Construction, Brevo, Caisse d'Epargne Bretagne Pays de la Loire, Coop Atlantique, Delabie, Devoteam, DomusVi, Fayat, Groupe sfpi, Harmonie Mutuelle, Kiloutou, La Redoute, MĂ©diamĂ©trie, Mutuelle des Motards, Norsys, Phenix, Picard, Qonto, Quito ECS Group, SCC, Serfim, Sodebo, Tape Ă lâOeil, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield.
